Aside from my lovely 10 mile run/walk on Sunday I don't have much to be proud of. My diet has been less than stellar, even knowing that I am competing in a weight loss competition. This morning I tried to use the weight loss competition to motivate me to make better choices and it simply didn't do it!
So what motivated me? A reminder that I have PCOS! I made myself get on Web-MD and look at the symptoms and problems associated with it. It clearly states that a good diet with exercise is the best thing I can do for me. The bottom line is if I want to have a baby I need to treat my body better.
Motivation isn't a horizontal line; there are curves, peaks and valleys along the way. What motivates you when your resolution wanes?
I think I'll be enjoying a healthy spinach and vegetable quesadilla and fruit for lunch and a great sweat session this afternoon, before attending a work function with Husband tonight. And in the meantime my job today isn't teaching but assessing. I have a love/hate relationship with report cards.

I'm sorry that you're struggling babe. Maybe it's time to switch up your foods or try a different workout routine to spice things up.
I read this on a blog somewhere before and it totally made sense, "Some days you can't rely on motivation, because it just isn't there. Some days you just have to suck it up and DO the work!"
You just gotta grit your teeth and do the work.
I just posted about motivation! But I'll recap - basically I tell myself: see how far you've come, see how many great day's you've had, and all of the amazing things you have planned for your future? If you don't take control of today, you won't get what you want in the future. And you won't have 'bad days' like today if you stay on track. So just do it!
You can do anything, believe in yourself :) We all do!
That motivation is the best right there. I think I've said before I have PCOS, too and found out when we began trying to have a baby. I have those, "if I only knew then what I know now" moments all the time. Sure, we have our ups and downs and I believe you've caught yours early! Good for you!!! Also, when you have times in your job that you don't like, that's when I tend to spiral out of control, too. Things will be back to normal and in routine soon!
Being healthy is great motivation.
Right now, I am motivated by wanting to improve my race times.
I completely agree! It sounds extremely superficial compared to your answer, but sometimes just getting on my workout clothes and turning on "pump me up" music gets me motivated. Once I'm at the gym, I'm usually good to go. :-)
Wow, I've been struggling a lot lately too. I thought it was stress or being tired, but I just feel so unmotivated. This time last year, I was a machine. I was working my ass off to look good in that wedding dress. And over the summer? I was working my ass off to look good in my boudoir pictures. Now what am I working my ass off for? To live? Yeah, hand me that chocolate. It's such a crappy attitude and I'm really trying to change it. By saying no. My sugar addicition is out of control right now, and I gotta cut it out.
I hope you figure everything out for yourself, and I hope that I do too. We're all such motivators to each other.. or at least that is how it is for me!
Thanks for the comment on my blog! Feel free to stop by anytime! I love your blog too! Your banner header is so adorable!
What motivates me? I , too, want to be in a very healthy state so I can have a baby! I also motivated by the fact that I'm not allowed to by new clothes until the ones I own are too big!
I hate when motivation is lacking. I'm starting to get my mojo back. But I believe if you put on your cutest workout clothes and have a rockin' playlist, you'll get it done. The hardest part is getting started. Once you've done that, you're golden!
I've been struggling too. Like you, my running has been fabulous, but the food part isn't all there.
To try and stay motivated I just think of how far I've come, and that I can do it, and I can get back on track. It's just so hard sometimes!
Sometimes I feel like every day my job is assessing instead of teaching lately, whew! I would say I have a general hate relationship with report cards- though I have a love/hate with conferences because I think it's really important to communicate with parents.
Anyway, on to the motivation topic. I find that like you I am not always motivated by little things like losing a pound or two, but I am highly motivated by my health. Because I have IBS, I feel SO much better when I am being healthy and that motivates me. I think having a baby is even more motivation, even if I don't want one now...but as far as I know I don't have to worry about that. Hope your newfound motivation works!
I think its normal to have to struggle after the holidays. Its not really New Year's so the resolutions have kinda faded into the background, (or at least mine have).
Hang in there. You really are an inspiration to us all!
Very good reason to stick with it! You can do live that healthy lifestyle - seems like you've got the working out down!!
its hard staying motivated all the time, but you just have to find the things that DO motivate you, and turn to them when your feeling unmotivated.
hang in there!!
What a great question!! :D
Health is definitely a major motivator, and it's also very motivating to remind myself of how I feel when I *do* workout and eat well and when I *don't*. I love feeling healthy and energetic, and that's usually enough motivation to keep me going! :D
