My First 10K

I did it!  I ran a 10K!  Yesterday I wasn't exactly excited because of so many things going on but I woke up today ready for the race!

The day began with stretching and foam rolling and my favorite pre-race breakfast:  peanut butter and banana on a slimwich.

Once we got to the race place and our bib and goodies, we preceeded in try to stay warm.  It was cool and fogging.

The race began and I was very cold the first mile.  Then it got better and warmer.  The race course was an out and back route.  The first mile was an easy down-hill and the realization that the last mile was going to be a hard up-hill.  The race took us down a 4 lane road, through a neighborhood with the majority of the course being on a greenway.  The greenway part was nice and flat.  The miles were marked and my only disappointment was the lack of water stations, only 2 (one more would have been better).

The 5K and 10K race both began at the same time and there were probably 150 in the 5K and maybe 30 in the 10K.  So after about a mile we see the 5K racers speeding past us at the turn-around.  We knew we were just getting started and had to pace ourselves, especially for the last mile.

The last half mile was rough!  I wanted it to be over!  And the end was in sight but from the bottom of a big, long hill.  My goal was to finish in an hour.  Sadly I missed the goal my 20 seconds.  I finished in 60:20 but it's a PR because it is the first time I've run a race that distance.

The funeral went well.  We were supported by many family members and friends.  I'm going to take a nap now before going out to dinner with Husband (as a better birthday celebration).  It's going to be a dinner adventure from my ancestry homeland.

Congratulations on the 10k! I think that's an awesome time, especially with a hill like that at the end. Who designs a course with a hill at the end?! That's just mean! ;) You rock!
